Made for You, by Hand
Three Stages, One Piece
Stage 1 · The idea
The customer either chooses a Gold Works design, brings an existing one for replication, or sends us a sketch of the concept.
Stage 2 · The wax model
A wax model of the design is produced. Customers near Gold Works come to the shop to view the wax model. For distant enthusiasts, we send photos of the wax model by email.
Stage 3 · The piece
Once the wax model is satisfactory, Gold Works begins the actual jewelry work. Many of our customers watch us craft their piece. They walk away with a prized possession and a lifetime of memories.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Gold Works still open?
David has retired from the King Street storefront and now takes commissions online and by appointment. Email david@goldworksusa.com or call (703) 683-0333 to start a conversation about a custom piece or a repair.
How does a custom design work?
Three stages: you bring an idea, a sketch or an existing piece; David produces a wax model (photos are emailed to out-of-town clients); once the wax is approved the piece is cast, set and finished.
Can you work from my old jewelry?
Yes. Salvaging and redesigning heirloom pieces is one of David’s specialties — stones and gold from old jewelry can become an entirely new design.
What metals do you work in?
10K, 14K and 18K gold in yellow, white, pink and green, platinum, palladium, sterling silver and bronze — including two-tone and inlaid designs.
Do you do repairs?
Full jewelry repair: tips and prongs, stone setting, chain, pendant and earring repair, ring sizing and restoration of old rings, logos and pendants, plus most watch repairs and battery replacements.
How do I find my ring size?
Wrap a strip of paper snugly around the base of the finger, mark where it meets and measure — then use our Ring Size Chart. When in doubt, David can size you in person.
Can you make logos, medals or crests?
Yes — company and association logos, medals, presidential pins, family-crest and signet rings, and small sculptures in gold, silver, platinum or bronze.
Where are you located?
1400 King Street, Alexandria, VA 22314, in the heart of Old Town Alexandria, a few blocks from the King Street Metro.
